Do not gift up. It’s like a top 10 rule of being not poor.
If you have to ask…
The general rule is to not gift up. But if you do it should be something of very low value . . . Thus the focus is not on the actual gift but the thoughtfulness of the occasion. For instance something homemade (i.e. baked goods) is along the lines of the most i would give up

I received a gift from an associate. I thought it was very thoughtful. No other associate did that.
Maybe all of you could organize a white elephant gift exchange thing?
I always do this for a partner that I work extremely closely with. Something thoughtful. It’s always appreciated and never feels weird.
