Is it weird for an associate to give the partner they work closely with a gift? With the holidays coming up I always wonder who I should buy for at the office

Do not gift up. It’s like a top 10 rule of being not poor.

If you have to ask…

The general rule is to not gift up. But if you do it should be something of very low value . . . Thus the focus is not on the actual gift but the thoughtfulness of the occasion. For instance something homemade (i.e. baked goods) is along the lines of the most i would give up

I’ve always done that actually

I did when I worked in a very collegial small firm.

No. I used to do it. Always welcome.

Lmao

I received a gift from an associate. I thought it was very thoughtful. No other associate did that.

Maybe all of you could organize a white elephant gift exchange thing?

I always do this for a partner that I work extremely closely with. Something thoughtful. It’s always appreciated and never feels weird.

I’m looking to buy a full length mirror but I want one that is high-quality and accurate. Right now I have these cheap mirrors in my apartment where the image is distorted to make me look taller and skinnier. Well this has been fantastic for my self-esteem for the past few years it’s shocking when I see what I look like in a normal mirror that isn’t a “skinny mirror.” Anyone have suggestions for a full length large mirror I can hang on the wall that will be high quality and not break the bank?

Almost midnight here and I'm cleaning my medicine cabinet so I can reboot having a regular skin-care routine. I'm listening to one of my favorite musicals, "Ragtime", specifically the song "He Wanted to Say". Living 9 time zones away from home out of the US and watching the BLM movement there, unable to do anything concrete about it from here - this song I've listened to countless times, today about brought me to tears.

I really don’t mean this to virtue signal - just wanted to share a moment.

What do you do when you feel the goalpost has been/is being moved re: billable requirements? Like there's a spoken vs unspoken? I chose this job based on billables vs salary and what I'm being told I'm expected to do now is 20-30% (at least) > than what was initially agreed upon. Given my other life responsibilities, this is creating a huge strain & I feel like this is slowly getting harder & harder on my spouse & kids. I'm grateful to have lots of good work but not sure how to course correct.

How many billable hours per week is considered at capacity? I’m getting pushback on boundaries I’m setting about additional matters and marketing work from my firm when I’ve been billing 60-75 hours per week for the last 6 weeks, and I’m still behind on my work. I feel like it’s reasonable to not kill myself further to fit in more/turn things around faster at this point, but am I being unreasonable? I expect my workload to remain at this level through the end of the year at least.
