You could’ve stopped after the first five words and the answer would be yes.
“Worth it” in what sense?
You might have higher earning potential but as a business owner you will be on-the-clock 24/7 and stability will go right out the window.
This is why they tether your health care coverage to your job. Keep you working for the company, not yourself. BUT, if you’re young, ambitious and hungry, definitely an option.
Do both at first.
You’re also going to need the income from your day job to pay for the costs of starting a business. Definitely do both at first
I see you Ogilvy.
Are you afraid you’re going to miss something? Take the leap. You only live once.
I don’t give a shit. I put in my time. Glad to be out. This industry is a shell of what I remember and enjoyed. OMC can suck the life out of a stone these days. My days are filled with our dog business and substitute teaching.
If you cannot stomach even the humanizing of conservatives at a coastal ad agency (as most agencies preach) then you will never be able to work with small businesses, who have the most conservative owners/decision makers in the country.
The other thing to consider is that these owners have great means, but their budgets are not treated the same as corporate budgets, even though they are smaller. You will have to work harder for their dollars and always have to justify it.
If you can stomach those two things then “yes” go for it!
If you can’t, stay where you are.
In this economy? I would say no, too many things are volatile at the moment.
If you proceed I wouldn’t quit your day job (yet) while you’re getting your business off the ground.
Depends if your product or service has clear differentiation. Does it?
Thanks. I’m trying
Yeah, I guess my thought process is, I’d rather actually try to do something to take my career to another level instead of just being another name to layoff in the terrible state that this industry is in
YOLO. Go own your own business! More power to ya! 👍🏻
yes.
Guess it really depends what the business/brand is and if it’s really a great idea at the right time. The reason most of us work for somebody else is because we don’t want to take those risks. A background in making other businesses successful and cool sure would help though.
I’d do your best to soft launch and test it before you give up the paycheque.
Yes! Do it!
No OP. Bad idea.
You will miss the nice cushy office, spending 2-6 hours in status meetings, happy hours, Cannes shortlists, getting your ideas rejected, and obviously the AI shift that the industry is going through. You also won’t be able just to write, you’ll also do sales, finance, PM, and marketing.
I say no.
