Ive probably done at least 40 DDs. Obviously they’re intense and the hours are bad, but some of the pros IMO:
- they’re short. If you hate a team/manager/industry you only need to suffer for a few weeks. I honestly can’t imagine suffering through some of the industries or teams I’ve been on for months on end; also since they’re short you get to see a lot of different industries really quickly which can be helpful in determining what you like / don’t like
- if you do want buy side (idk why you would because no amount of money is worth the stingy vacation time IMO) it definitely is good exposure and experience
- it’s an easy way to get a lot of reps on something really quickly and build up your skills fast - for example I really struggled doing surveys at first, but then got to do a lot more in a short period of time and am now a survey master (I say as someone with no self confidence lol)
- PE firm are intense but not as annoying as corporate clients. They don’t drag shit out (at least on buy side projects); you still have to sugar coat things but you don’t have to act like the target is the greatest thing since sliced bread like you have to do with corporate clients; they’re pretty hands off too so you don’t have to deal with an obscene number of client check ins or relationship management piece
- they’re somewhat formulaic. You do the same set of activities, and 90% of the scope questions are the same from project to project. And if your firm has done projects in that industry it’s really easy to leverage old guides, models, slides etc.
There are probably others but that’s what came to mind
Rising Star
So the consensus is that it’s good to do as a short term bootcamp but definitely not a something you want to make a career out of?
Cdd was fun for me..i think it depends on the person..
Would rather die than do another CDD. Kind of depends on your SD though
Is it weird that I’m at EYP and want exposure to CDDs? From what I hear they suck but you learn a lot from doing a couple of them. Is it useful to do a couple to check the box?
I have only done 2 but I learned a lot, i’d like to do some more
Extremely long ones… 12-18 hours a day + weekend work
It’s more the intensity vs hours
