Is there any biglaw tax group with great mentoring/training? Currently at a v10 tax group where it’s really sink or swim culture and wondering if all are like that..

You’re not going to like this statement but if you want excellent tax training go to Big4.

I’m referring to local office tax staff. If you’re a tax staff at a local office you’ll have excellent training that is developed by National office. I don’t have experience working in a B4 national office to know what it’s like for them but I have learned from them and it is excellent.

I was at Latham for a few years and the formal trainings were great. Mentoring on the other hand seemed very office/partner dependent and overall not a strong suit.

Agree tax friends at DPW and Latham seem well trained and content

I thought the training (formal and informal) at Cravath was great.

Where are my home cooks at?

I'm entertaining guests and picked up a black summer truffle on a whim, trying to decide what to do with it. I've got some rib eyes and will be making mashed potato as well (among other things).

After sous vide and searing the steaks I was going to cook fresh rosemary and thyme in some butter before spooning them over the steaks while resting to heat them up a bit immediately before serving.

I think I've got my truffle 101 now so sounds like (cont)

Debevoise Hong Kong is hiring a tax associate (2nd to 5th years, but there may be flexibility in class year), ideally with experience in funds tax. Comp is the latest DPW/Cravath scale plus a COLA each year and moving costs. I'm currently there, and I'm happy to chat if anyone is interested.

Has anyone dealt with stuffing allocation in a non-hedge fund context? It seems even in the HF world the law is fuzzy in using aggregate reverse 704c principles in stuffing allocations. Like, sure, the market is there but no authority really blessed it (other than some Cravath partner’s article in Tax Notes in 2013). If we are talking asset class that isn’t really like marketable securities but might be able to treat it similarly solely by virtue of, say, valuation on a quarterly basis (contd)

Anyone have any thoughts on a fair salary for a part time virtual tax prep-focused position? I have 13 years of experience in a big box franchise where I’ve handled complex returns from day 1. 30% of my workload has been 1120/1120S/1065 and the rest higher-level 1040s and a few 1041s & 990s.
