Is there anyone here that made a move to strategic finance or something similar in industry? I’m actively looking to move into it and would love any insights into getting a role.

I’ve sometimes got interviews but I’ve fallen flat or feel like I can’t communicate what I’ve done in IB; I frankly feel like a pure data monkey and feel lost with what I did. Any insights would be helpful here

I'm in finance/tech FPA, looking to go back to the defense industry for a 25% increase in TC. But wanted to see if I should leverage the new salary with current company to see if they'll match.

Trying to get an investment job in Toronto as a new immigrant. I have 4 yoe in consulting, investor searching and financial service (risk). Currently working at call center to get local experience (bilingual), opportunities for internal transfer, while preparing for CFA 3 Feb 2023. Any ideas what to prepare in extra?

In the meantime, I’ve applied to a lot of similar roles (slightly higher) but have not heard - good or bad - from any. Is it common for companies to slow down hiring in December because of Q4 rush, people on holiday, etc.?

Is there such things as FP&A positions in Big 4? If so, are there better times to make the change than others (I.e. at senior vs manager)? I’m currently in FP&A and looking to work at a Big 4, or another company that offers the ability to move abroad. Hi everyone, I'm new to Canada and want to start my career here in the Financial and Banking industry. I have passed the CFA level 2 exam and was wondering if I have to complete the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) as most of the job postings here mention about it. I saw that if someone passes at least the CFA level 1 exam then the requirement of CSC is exempted. Can anyone enlighten me about this? As the CSC exam costs above 1000 CAD, I wanted to be sure if I need it before investing behind it.

knows what the job entails exactly. I keep hearing about people "fooled" into taking a job in risk advisory thinking it'll really be advisory while they only end up doing IT and Audit support (which I do not want to do).

Is IB worth the sacrifice of WLB? Obvious pay is really good but are the prestige and pay worth it if you’re planning on only doing it for a couple years?

Currently working at an IRA with great WLB. Honestly I love my job, the firm, and people I work with.

Also doing MBA part time at a T15 school. Thinking about switching to IB but I’ve done my research and I think I would burn out of IB in two years but I might be ok with that for the opportunities after.

I am starting at a new company early next year and they’ve just invited me to attend their Christmas party. Is it a good idea to go? Or should I wait for a more formal introduction once I start?
