Is there bottled water at your office and, if so, are you free to drink it? I just realized that many attorneys bring their own water bottle, which make me think our bottled water might be for clients. I am afraid to ask. Thoughts?

Lol. Ask an assistant or someone. I've worked at a firm where bottled water, fruit, snacks were provided for all staff and one where the bottled water was WAY off limits - clients only! Just depends on the office.

I've worked here a long time and am worried that everyone but me knows. I'm not sure I can stand the shame if I find out if I have been drinking client water daily. (We do definitely have sodas and coffee for attorneys/staff.)

funny

I hate to be this person but could you just buy your own case of bottled water and keep it somewhere discrete in your office - where I am, a case of 24 is no more than $3.00.

There’s beer in the fridge, does that count?

like

Yes. But are you free to drink it? It might be odd if your attorneys bring beer to work every day, unless they are WFH.

Oh, I fully realize how ridiculous the question is! Levity.

Have no idea how generally applicable this is but we use it for client meetings and depositions. We have glasses and people bring yetis etc for their own water while working to use water cooler. It’s not a rule just generally accepted practice it seems.

We have bottled water, soda, and other snacks that are for staff and clients. I work in a smaller firm with a great boss. They even started stocking Diet Coke because I am a Diet Coke fiend. It does depend on the office. You might want to discretely check with the office manager or just observe other staff in the office to see if they help themselves.

5+ years of full-time job as developer and still waiting to reverse a LinkedList at work.

Since there is a heavy impetus on solving Tree, LinkedList, and Graph problems for tech interviews, it can naturally make freshers believe that these concepts will be used in day-to-day life at work. In reality, most of these DSA concepts are already implemented in some libraries our code uses and we rarely have to code such Algorithms by hand.

I’ve been doing ID for about 2 years now. Mostly slip and fall and WC work. Long-term, I want to move out of ID. I’m currently interviewing at a firm that does ID, but mostly does insurance coverage opinions. They also do some more complex ID, such as L&E.

With the ultimate goal of moving completely out of ID, would this be seen as a step up? I appreciate any and all feedback. TIA

I’ve tried to figure out when to come and go based upon when the partners arrive and leave, but their schedules are very inconsistent. The other associates don’t have helpful guidance for me. Assuming that if I ask the partners they’ll say to use my discretion, what are reasonable hours to keep?
