We had a break in that led to one of our neighbors dying, when I was younger. She was only in her thirties and I remember thinking when I get strong enough I'm going to make sure that perp never gets away with that again. I never found that guy, I don't know if anyone did. But I've found enough that have been put where they need to be put.
I'm in Corrections, but the basis of my love for all law enforcement jobs springs from this: I always thought, there is nothing cooler than a person who can take charge and turn around a disastrous or potentially tragic, maybe actively developing situation. The average person (public) is super vulnerable. They need guidance in crises. They are panicked and confused. Think: mall or school shootings. Even one officer can turn a situation around and save one or more people's lives. I love to be that person.
My dad was a police officer and I wanted to be like my dad!
I wish I had a wonderful anecdote about a neighborhood cop saving my life when I was a kid or something equally beautiful, but I'm afraid I don't. It was a natural fit for me because I've always wanted to help people and feel like I'm in an action movie. Oh, and getting to operate the flashy lights were the main selling point.
Living in the same area for nearly all of my life, observing it progressively devolve into violent chaos, and constantly wanting to take action were the long-term causes.
I was enrolled in a college elective course for patrol procedures. I flipped through the course catalog at random since I needed three credits. By the third class, I was hooked, and the next term, I applied for a second major.
Social parasites and predators who feed on virtuous, hardworking citizens are something I detest to the core. We will never win this battle, but you fight the battles that must be fought, not just the ones you can win.
Growing up, I always enjoyed volunteering and helping others. Helping folks get through the hardest day of their lives is what our job is all about.

If you read this far, I hope you are smiling. This is old school gallows humor for when times are tough.
I am not sure if my story is uplifting. But it has been my childhood dream. I know it is cliche but when I got the job, I was really really happy.
I am here for the comments. Mine's not that entertaining. But I joined because I thought I could get more money. Lol
I’m still in college but I want to join Law Enforcement to help make a difference in my community. These bowls have really given me an insight on what’s to come.
