Pray before, during, and after church. Pray before, during, and after work. Connect with god in the ways that mean the most to you after work (could be a podcast, or book, or scripture, or fellowship).
Sometimes I have a tough time paying attention and being present with my wife for example, but I ask god to help me. And I work hard at it. Relationships take work and your relationship with God will take work. Fight the good fight to focus and don’t forget to ask from help from the only Person who can actually give it to you!!
Try to set aside time on the calendar each day for prayer, meditation, and/or reading of his word.
Second setting boundaries.
Also try to get in touch with a fellow church member during the week - we’re not meant to only worship/have fellowship on Sundays! Not sure if you use your phone during service, but maybe also try putting it out of sight, and also set it on Do not disturb mode.
Also recommend preparing for service before you attend - harder to be distracted if you already set the habit of focusing on God before you even walk into church. Maybe it’s listening to a certain Christian song/hymn you like, reading a devotional that morning before you attend, etc. (these are also great habits to adopt before you start your workday on the weekdays!)
I suggest setting boundaries with work. It’s not easy but it’s so worth it! I did it after 2 months of covid working lifestyle because we were working 14 hour days every day and I literally couldn’t handle it anymore. I told my boss what I was doing and he supported it. Any good boss will. Block off time on your calendar if you have to for the things that feed your soul. Set the precedent that you sign off by x time every night. I told my boss I’d give him until 6 if need be but was shooting for 5. He said “make it 4 if you can”. Mental health is SO important and if there’s one good thing that came out of covid it’s that companies are realizing that and also how fragile it really is for most people. Take the time for you.
Unplug. At the very least for the sermon, if you're truly on an urgent deal / project.
before going to church, get out paper and pencil and write down all the concerns, thoughts and to-do's related to work that are swimming around in your brain. get them out of your head and onto the paper.
