You need to leave and see if you can lateral to something paying market. You can’t bill biglaw hours if you can’t afford to outsource as much as possible. What year are you?
It’s great that you are getting good experience but you’re also going to need a lot of savings to start your own firm if you don’t have clients that will transfer with you (which you probably don’t at your level). You will likely work even more the next few years when getting your business off the ground. I went to law school later and had my first as a 1st year. I worked a lot and it became unsustainable when I had my second because we needed more hands. I switched firms when I was a 4th year and got more pay and less hours, and it was the best decision. I might make a move again soon to a market paying firm knowing that I’ll have to work more but will be able to outsource more as the kids get older and their school hours are shorter (so I’ll need more childcare).
Been there, whether in private practice or in-house. A few suggestions: (1) make a rule that you don’t work on weekends or that you only work so many hours a day. (2) evaluate your life and add back at least one thing that makes you really happy. It shouldn’t be cleaning or organizing or caregiving. It needs to be just for you. It could be as simple as listening to music you love and singing fav songs on the way to work. Or maybe it’s a hobby. Just one thing, and try to do it consistently like it’s your job. (3) is there a paralegal in your group or at your firm that you can lean on? There’s a tendency not to engage these incredibly capable people nearly as much as they can help. It helps with their engagement, it teaches you to delegate and it develops both of you.
None of these are perfect and it may make sense to start looking. The tricky thing may be that your tendency to be really dedicated may get you to the same stress/angst level anywhere so part of the solution will be figuring out your tricks to managing that. At least it was for me. Again, it’s the job too so do poke around for something different. I just want you to have relief now.
