Might help for something entry level if you have no other experience. Past that, experience is the only thing that matters

like

Only people that don’t have associate or professional aws, gcp, k8s, etc exams say this (or have no idea what it is). It’s like saying that a CFA is useless. Some of our technical engagements *require* specific certificates

like

You’re welcome bcg2. That’s 250k in fees, please

likefunny

Personally, if you don’t have practical experience the cert doesn’t really mean much. Anyone can study hard and get one. And if you do have the experience, the cert isn’t going to help you be any better.

It does demonstrate at least a base level of knowledge to our clients though. So when we say we can bring in an expert, we have proof of that. So it can help your firm/practice in that respect.

like

Not quite. Your experience and the ability to show matter more

like

Certs mean nothing to me

like

If you're part of a small/medium shop, certs can be a requirement for your firm to get a partnership. Usually a vendor will require X employees having Y level of certification in order to qualify.

Also, if a new capability is released by a vendor, having enough people get certs in that area can be a way to be a first mover on the vendor's list of qualified partners.

So I would say the org mostly cares about people having certs in the aggregate. But if you're one of the few certified in a particular area, you could potentially get preference on staffing.

like

To my first point, vendors apply certification requirements to all partners, not just small/medium firms. However, larger firms are more likely to have enough certified people already. For a small/medium firm, you getting certified might make the difference between being a Silver vs. Gold partner.

It isn’t a huge deal, but it isn’t a waste of time either. Studying for the certification - you will actually learn more anyway. It’s just another thing to have.

like

I think it's useful only for people with no or little experience in D&A field just to get their resume stand out, not to help them in actual work. (Also do you know how easy to get any exam dumps on the internet these days? So for me personally I always doubt people with certs in 10 different things)

like

Do certifications help with what?
- Selling work?
- Delivering work?
- Getting a job on a D&A team?

Just depends on what capability you’re in. A cert in AWS/Databricks/Snowflake for cloud data engineering will hold different weight than a SQL cert from coursera.

If you’re in Viz, a cert in Tableau or PowerBI isn’t bad to have but I wouldn’t say it’s a game changer if you already have experience using those tools

Fwiw I know some people at the regional firm and the people seem awesome. The boutique is full of well-accomplished and super smart lawyers. Need advice!

My dilemma… I am an injury adjuster at a carrier experiencing high inventory that’s barely manageable. A competitor offered a higher salary and manageable workload. BUT, I would like to get into underwriting. I applied for UW position w/ a different carrier and they’ve made an offer. It’s lower than my current salary and significantly lower than what I’d make by taking the first offer. Do I take the high salary and stay in claims or go for UW in hopes it will be best in long run?

However, there is an opportunity to join Google Dublin as an Agency Development Manager (level 4) with strong salary, new challenges, different role and responsibilities etc. I HAVE A STRONG DOUBT about a trade off: is better to have a strong margin of growth and a good position or join Google with the above conditions?
