I've been in this career for over 35 years - 14 of them at my current firm. I handle the most complex and highest earning cases in our office. Within the last couple of months, the attorneys have been "pulling" other staff in to do tasks on my cases, for no reason. Sometimes, the staff have no clue what the case is about, so are in asking me how to do the task. I'm starting to feel like I'm being pushed aside. Am I being pushed toward the door? Should I start looking for another job?

Are the paralegals young / younger? The attorneys may be using this as a training opportunity, preparing for your eventual retirement, perhaps?

Unfortunately all we will be able to do here is speculate. I am not sure how old you are or how close to retirement you may be… do you have an attorney that you trust enough to ask candidly about this?

I wouldnt take it personally just yet.

Sounds like a billing rate issue. With your experience you should be running a team of younger folks to do the lesser tasks under your guidance. Given you have been there 14 years I assume you have solid communication with the atty team. I would ask.

Hi all, anyone familiar with Skadden in DC? Looking for any insight!

I did it! I got an in-house Paralegal position after years of working and being burned out at different law firms. I was going to leave the legal field all together because I was so burned out and depressed, but I decided to give the field one more chance if I was able to go in-house. Prayerfully, this transition will be a good one.

Are there any fully remote lawfirms, ie you don't have to live in the state they have offices? I recently left a large lawfirm to go in-house which came with a huge paycut that is not going to be sustainable long term, but needed a remote position to be able to move. I'd like to keep my current job part-time but get back in a lawfirm too.

What is the average paralegal salary in NC for a commercial real estate law office? I’ve been with a great firm for the last 9 years but am starting to wonder if I’m being compensated fairly. The company is about 30 employees (mostly attorneys) but I work primary for 4 of the attorneys.

Hi everyone. Is it typical for the attorney to take credit for the work a paralegal does? An example: I gave some ideas about deposition questions and some observations I made (I was asked about giving suggestions) regarding a witness and the attorney mentioned that he’s the one that had these great questions/observations. Zero credit or thank you for the work I did.

For those of you who made the switch to in house/corporate law, what was your experience like? Did you have to take a lower position to gain the experience or were you able to argue that your soft skills were transferable to in house?
