I’ve been noticing more and more people working well past 60, and it makes me wonder how we expect younger generations to get ahead when fewer roles are opening up. I’ve even seen a couple people retire early, but I’m not sure if it was by choice or something they were pushed into. Is anyone else seeing this trend in their company and what do you think it means for career growth?

Funny you say that because alot of 50+ people i know are saying the opposite - they can't get ahead because companies are hiring younger / cheaper labor for higher roles. So instead of complaining, keep up your skill set, show your value, and network!

Not that it affects everything, but it does affect a lot, people need to learn to vote the correct way and that isn’t the way that’s sitting in the White House right now.🥹

The last resident of the White House certainly wasn’t the way.

People are finding that they cannot afford to retire. I believe full retirement for SS is 66, going up to 67 soon. I highly doubt I will ever be able to fully retire.

like

retirement age is based on your year of birth.

The target used to be 65 at the latest tied to benefits. With people having kids later in life, everything getting more expensive, and keeping up with the Joneses, many need to work later and later.

According to the BLS and Pew Research:

A significant and growing number of Americans over 65 are still working, with around 20% (over 11 million in 2024) participating in the labor force, driven by demographic shifts and financial needs, often shifting to part-time work (around 38%) for flexibility, purpose, and to supplement retirement savings as pensions decline, making this the fastest-growing age group in employment.

I fully expect to be working into my 70s, I would retire into poverty as I don’t earn enough to save enough to retire. I am honest when I say I do not want a long life because of this. Side note, no children or spouse. I would be poor and alone, no way to live. As it is, I live to work, the exact opposite of how it should be.

Landed a contract role at Deloitte via MBO Partners for an audit senior role. MBO is making me a W-2 employee for MBO, but I am getting paid $125/hour plus overtime. Hello, I am a junior business administrator working in advisory operations. I have been with the company for 6 months, and was employed along with 2 other colleagues. I have picked the job up really fast and am even doing some “extra curricula’s” I really love my job. It has really disheartened me and I feel I should be earning more money
