Do you mean non-phones like customer service? In almost every role you are going to interact with people on the phone, but certain roles in insurance like business analysts, training, compliance, technical/data, etc you'll mostly deal with internal contacts. Do some research with open postings in your company and ask around - you won't know what the company offers until you actually look.
Wow i have also looked into being a scrum master. I heard liberty mutual gives lots of promotions fast so it’s time for me to work my butt off lol! Thank you
I will say I have always wondered what other companies phone policies are. I’m sure there is a happy median to answering the phone every time it rings and actually being able to get work done. If feels like I spend most of the day on the phone and responding to emails which keeps me from doing my actual job!
What position do you have? At Geico we need to answer 90% of our calls while not on the phone in upper level claims handling. Fyi lol
What do you need to be an underwriter?

I've seen some job posts where they don't require any special certification or licensing. But as a claims adjuster, I'm sure you can apply to get you CPCU and your company could pay for fees. That way, when you apply for the UW positions, having that CPCU would give you a boost. Best of luck!
THIS IS EXACTLY WHY I MOVED OVER TO PIP LITIGATION 🤣 I hate being on the phones and now I only have to talk to our internal defense counsel here and there about cases, but there’s no real phone metrics.. I’m at Progressive.. but I’m sure PIP Lit is likely the same in most companies
I started back in October of 2014 in PCS.. Then in 2015 I moved over to commercial PCS, then I moved to URBI in the Summer of 2015, then ARBI in Summer of 2016.. then I moved from an ARBI specialist to senior specialist in 2018 then I moved to PIP Lit in February 2021 as a PIP Lit Specialist Senior
PCS = Personal Auto Claims Specialist (CGT, Claims Generalist Trainee is level 37 and CGA, Claims Generalist Associate is level 38) and URBI (Unrepresented Bodily Injury Claims is level 39)
Casualty = ARBI (CSI Claims Specialist Intermediate is level 39 and CSS Claims Specialist Senior is level 41)
PIP Litigation = PIP Lit Specialist is level 39 and PIP Lit Specialist Senior is level 41)
Miami/South Florida Pay
Level 37 = $48K - $72K
Level 38 = $53K - $79K
Level 39 = $54K - $91K
Level 41 = $66K - $110K
We also get gainshare which depends on how well the company does
Level 37 - 38 gets 6%
Level 39 gets 8%
Level 41 gets 12%
PIP Litigation is mainly reviewing lawsuits from Providers, filed by outside Plaintiff counsel because a medical provider feels Progressive possibly owes them more PIP benefits. I review the suit to see if we should settle or defend it with our internal defense counsel. Sometimes in the course of the suit being defended, Plaintiff counsel takes my deposition and the most challenging things about the position can be inventory and time management but that’s with most claims positions.. it’s way better imo than any of the other departments I mentioned. If you have the opportunity, ask to “shadow” someone in the department and let your Supervisor know you’re looking into this department early on.
Maybe a client delivery analyst may be the route for you. I think that’s the name of the position. Check client delivery analyst as well.

This is an interesting question. I'm in claims... I think a non-phone position would be the trainers or coaches. But I've also seen claim adjusters move over to UW too.

I was just thinking about moving to UW or to Workers Comp. I feel like I need a change but I'm not sure where to go.
When you find something, let me know! Because the unrealistic phone/sms metrics they are pushing is crazy!
In PIP Litigation we don’t have to be on the phone for external people (customers, opposing counsel attorneys, etc)
I work as a remote desk adjuster and my phone is constantly ringing. Claimants, insureds, appraisers, body shops, attorneys, adverse carrier.
Sounds like my typical day. And it’s very hard to be responsive to all lines of communication( phone, email, texts, instant messages, and returning voicemails while trying to manage 5 to 7 new claims at minimum per day and then juggling the other 100 plus claims you already have.
I start training on the 29th in the customer service extended call queue. These comments make me nervous lol.
It just means they are going to have you take calls from Michigan and Mass. Most people start with the other states, but the turnover rate is high, so I’m assuming they need people.
I was at LM in subrogation and even in that dept. they had a metric that you had to make 5 outbound calls for every call you received inbound whether that call went to your voicemail or you were able to answer it. Insureds love to try and call you several times in a row instead of leaving a voicemail thinking they're going to reach you. That would blow my stats. Subro could be done mostly electronically, but I was making all kinds of unnecessary outbound calls just to keep my stats evened out. Ridiculous that I had to fudge the system.
Omg wow
