I’ve been practicing for almost 12 years and have had several legal assistants and paralegals along the way. Some have better than others. But, lately it seems like it is really pulling teeth to get good work product. Additionally, paralegals and assistants consistently push back on tasks and are defensive when corrections to work are needed. Recently, I had a paralegal blow up at me suggesting that the task I asked her to do was my job. How is everyone handling this?

Hi Guys, I have 4.5 yrs of Automation experience. I have exp in Selenium, Java, katalon, protractor and cucumber. I also have a master's in software engineer from California and worked in US for 2.5yrs. I relocated to India couple years ago but I haven't been able to achieve the salary slab that I would like for my exp. Current CTC is 9lpa.
What should I do or change about my approach for a better salary?

I’ve done PI work my entire career for over 10 years. I’ve worked in state and federal courts and I’ve traveled around the country doing MDL work and bellwether trials. I’ve had a lot of success making the idiots I’ve worked for wealthy, but I’m still waiting for a moment where I enjoy what I’m doing. I feel stuck working in dysfunctional plaintiff firms/cultures. I hate this profession/career more and more each year. Has anybody been successful breaking off on their own in recent years? Advice?

What’s a good LA or NY business litigation firm and salary to expect? I’m a 2yr with quite frankly a lot of experience across civ rights, PI, excessive force, wrongful death, employment defense, K dispute, corp. structure dispute, professional licensure. Write every kind of brief, appeals, argue motions, take depos. Am the only associate working directly under partner on all cases. In house or M&A/Real Estate Transactional are likely the end goal but want to get the litigation out of me first.

For Plaintiff's attorneys, how big is your caseload? What kind of cases are the majority of them and are they in suit? Hello all, I'm a very green attorney, never tried a single case or even was second or third chair, but managed to land a litigation associate position at a Plaintiff's firm. Does anyone remember their first trial? How did you feel and how did it turn out by comparison? Anything you wish you did differently?
I know in THEORY what the process of trials are but thanks to COVID I haven't been able to observe them in real life so I'm very nervous for the day I finally enter a courtroom.

New to PI. I filed suit and know policy limits ($500k). I want $1M but I have to live in reality. Insurance company wants to know if I have a demand. Is there any reason why I’d demand more than the policy limits?

In an auto accident trial, can you inform the jury in any way that the at-fault driver had insurance? I have a hard time believing a jury would award 7-figure damages if they thought the little old lady defendant had to personally pay. I’m just starting to do PI on the side by myself at my firm, so this is probably a very dumb and obvious question.

Are there many legitimate ethical hurdles when switching from insurance defense to plaintiff’s work? I’ve always seen myself as a plaintiff’s lawyer, but ultimately took an ID job out of law school (better salary, no real opportunities at plaintiffs firms that I liked). I like what I do—so far—but I’m constantly thinking about whether the grass is greener.

Here in my jx, in little league/entry level court, it’s pretty typical judges award 2x the medical bills.

What's your preference for plaintiff's side? Steady pay at approximately $120k with no bonuses, or a base salary of $70k plus a cut of what you close over a minimum threashold? Midwest-ish market. In both situations, you get a cut of what you bring in.

What things can I do to market myself? I’m switching from ID to PI in January and we get half the fees on cases we being in so I’d like to be on the radar of not only my own friends and family, but the local legal community and the community in general.

4th year at a mid size PI firm. Got pulled from litigating MVAs to help this solo we hired start a med Mal/nursing home practice. 1 year in and it looks like I’m two steps backwards in terms of getting paid because we’re a year or more out from a lot of the fees hitting. I respect the solo a lot, he’s a mentor, but I’ve got kids and I gotta get paid. Trying not to burn bridges, but I can’t wait years to get cut in. Advice?
