I’ve been trying to network by sending polite, personalized messages to people on LinkedIn who work at my target companies, and the response rate is basically 0%. The old advice of it’s not what you know, it’s who you know doesn’t really work when nobody new is willing to get to know you. Are you finding any success with cold outreach? What works for you?

I’ve made it 5+ years in a NY M&A practice and have consistent exceeding expectations reviews. I’ve had a few mental breakdowns because of work during this time, but thankfully made it through. I’ve been in a near constant depressive/anxious state for family reasons for the last year and half, and am soon having my first kid.
