I’ve got a little lamp on my desk. Soft light and it has different colors! I’ve never gone all out and decorated my desk, but some little things really do perk up the space (and me).
My daughter would absolutely love it if I did this, she's been obsessed with axolotls for years! I haven't got one for my office (or house) yet, cute as I think they are. I do have some fidget toys on my desk that I find therapeutic. My favorite is a tiny cube full of magnetic balls that I grabbed at Barnes & Noble on a whim from a company called Speks. They're really fun. When I get bored or hit a wall, I'll kill 10-15 minutes creating fun shapes with them. It always clears my mind.
I keep a tiny Lego build on my desk that I change around when I need to reset my brain. It is oddly calming to tinker with something small and colourful, and it helps me break out of a stress spiral.

I don’t have anything on my desk like that, and it’s never even crossed my mind but that does seem a good idea!
When I worked in an office I had a collection of rubber ducks all along my desk. My company has moved to no assigned desks, and it makes me miss having my desk with all my quirky collectables :(
