I’ve noticed that roles I apply to directly don’t always lead anywhere, while conversations that start through recruiters or referrals seem to go further. Curious how others see this — is the legal job market still largely driven by networks and recruiters rather than cold applications?

Good to hear

Paralegal with 7 years experience from Portland, OR.. My best guess is that it depends on the legal market. For example I've had better luck applying directly and landing interviews in in the Vancouver, WA market than PDX as of late.

Although I studied History and not Economics in school, it's my opinion that the local business / state / federal presence in the market is very fluid thanks to the economy right now. So I'm branching out and looking for more remote or hybrid positions that are close to home or family. A that's just my two cents after a bour of unemployment, however.

Best of luck and blessings be.

Any books/self help materials for someone who is constantly worrying (and waste a lot of unnecessary time)? E.g. No matter if i pass or fail an interview, there is always something to worry about. The worrying/anxiety multiplies when I proceeded further in the interview stages. Now that I signed the offer and is pending background checks, my anxiety is off the roof as it itches closer to my starting date.

Hi, been stuck in the contract analysis/review cycle. I have asked a few recruiters how to make a lateral move into in-house.
