Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

I think you can do both. Negotiate your salary before you sign the contract and then request in writing a compensation review at a certain interval. They may push back a little bit but it's your right to advocate for yourself.

Makes sense, I will do that!
I havent, but comp reviews happen at least every 12 months anyway and sometimes 6 (in my company). So why is this framed as being part of the package and not them simply informing you of internal process? If it were package related, I'd expect them to promise and commit to a shorter timeframe than the norm and not a range that sits within normal reviews, or if it is budget related as to why this will be done later and not baked into current offer, have them commit to a min % raise by then. Also generally avoid it if you can and secure something else asap with offer (sign on bonus, etc). It's very easy for them to say sure we'll review in 3 months to make the deal look sweeter knowing nothing will come out of it. Tldr; an ambiguous and questionable financial component of an offer doesn't make it more attractive

Really appreciate the detailed response. Thank you so much! This all makes sense
Depends on how far off you are from your target. If within 5% I’d take the chance but just know it’s not guaranteed. They may do salary freezes or not agree to increase after the review.

Makes sense thank you!
I always think that is a bit of a red flag. I would definitely negotiate more salary up front. I don't trust that those reviews will actually happen when they are supposed to.
I take all future offers as moot.

Never had this happen to me. But I’ve had friends who said the company never followed through with the follow up.
