I've spent the last few years at a firm where 60+ hour weeks during busy season stretched into year-round overtime. I'm kind of burned out and looking for a role with better boundaries. Is it appropriate to ask about WLB expectations during initial interviews, or will that suggest that I'm a slacker?

As someone who does alot of interviews: I think as long as you make it known you are willing to work the OT during tax season and occasional OT outside of tax season - it wouldn’t be an issue.

You can absolutely ask. If they clutch their pearls at the question, that tells you a lot.

I think you can ask the question differently. “What part of the year is the busiest for the team or my role?” Hopefully you don’t have to elaborate and they will bring up WLB.

In general, it might be worth asking directly about WLB as you will know up front the expectations of time commitment and can make an informative decision.

I interviewed at a law firm and had my final round last Friday. The Tuesday afterward, I got a call from the recruiter saying the firm won’t have a decision for another week. I believe they’re interviewing other candidates. Does that make me second or third choice? And does the fact that I’m working with a recruiter hurt my chances of being selected due to the commission? Should I hold out for the offer or is 1+ week a sign that I won’t be selected?
