I’ve started measuring workplace health by how safe it feels to say “I don’t know.” The right environments treat that as collaboration, not incompetence. What’s a small signal you now use to gauge whether a culture is healthy?

Being able to disagree and express a concern about something without fear. Both what you are describing and my answer boil down to psychologically safe environments.

I agree. If disagreement is treated as disloyalty instead of dialogue, that tells you everything. Psychological safety isn’t a perk, it’s the foundation.

It's always a good sign if people can be honest and say they don't have time to do something, or they can't do something right away. What's awful is to get caught up in a culture where everyone becomes a "yes man" and automatically agrees to any demand from management. Being able to know your limits and set some sensible boundaries is always something to hope for.

That’s such a practical approach. Clarifying scope and timelines instead of just saying “no” can protect your bandwidth without burning bridges. It’s a quiet way of setting boundaries.

I have started saying I don’t know too
