Joined industry with decent pay. However i am quite under leveled both in terms of years of experience as well as expertise. No complain because i choose to join but there is no promotion culture. What should be my next steps?

Walk up the CEO with a firm handshake and notify him/her/xim that you are ex Deloitte and expect a quick promo cycle

Are you paid well? If so, take your money and build a great life outside work.

Took me a while to learn this

Not sure what promotion culture means, but if there is no open slot at the next rung in the ladder, then there is no position to promote you to. That’s the way most industry orgs work. They’re not as fluid as consulting.

Why not put your decent pay to work in the markets.

As someone who came to consulting after more than a decade in multiple industries, it never ceases to amaze me how entitled consultants feel to super high level positions for a few years' worth of experience. Not to mention that unless you have deep industry knowledge, your years of consulting experience likely don't mean much outside of the world of consulting.

For instance, someone may have made manager in 7 years at Deloitte right out of college but thinks they're entitled to an industry role that historically only goes to people with 15+ years of experience. Most industries aren't going to just give that person a job that requires twice their experience because they have a superiority complex.

like

I agreed. Most people, especially junior levels, are generalist at best. Maybe great project managers due to lack of industry knowledge. However, they know who to reach out to to get an answer at the bare minimum.

That is common in industry ( get promoted if someone leaves). Most just job hop traditionally if they want to move up

Well if you were in consulting you should have a few tricks up your sleeve, how about the good ol’ back stabbing, throw a few under performers under the bus, take credit for someone else’s work for good measure, make the team feel that toxicity in the air - see if that moves the needle for you.

like

Hahaha all of this may sound funny, but is too damn real

What industry has “no promotion” culture ?

Most industries once you hit a certain level the only way to get promoted is someone leaving. There’s no defined progression to leadership like there is in consulting.
