I kept mine active while raising the kids. Just take the 40 hours of CPE. Seemed easier to me than paperwork to pause it. I also did a little bookkeeping on the side so I deducted the course costs on my Sch C.
Keep it active!! How is this a real question
Keep it active!!
I went inactive and then reactivated. For ne it was very easy. I just had to prove out cpe for 3 years. I would check the rules for your state.
Thanks, good to know! As in you had to do 3 years worth of cpe all at once?
I went inactive and then did the required CPE hours just before returning to work. Yes, you have to do the full CPE for renewal, but since they typically charge $149/year for unlimited CPE, it’s cheaper than $149/year for 3 years or 5.
Just curious. To keep it active you have to pay the renewal fee, have 80 CPE hours every 2 years, and pay for CPE courses. If you let it expire - to renew it you would have to do the 80 hours of CPE, pay a renewal fee, and maybe retake the ethics and laws exams if it has been a while. But that seems easier/cheaper to do? You never have to retake the CPA exams either way. And unless you are practicing in public accounting, it doesn't seem like it would matter? Like in private industry they just like that you got the license but you don't actually use it for anything. Thoughts?
Any of the Big 4 offer free courses if you see their webpage.
