Just had a rough call where a client threatened to pull their business over something that, in the grand scheme of things, felt pretty minor. I stayed calm, reassured them we’d find a solution, but internally, I was freaking out. It’s tough walking the line between de-escalating a situation and not giving in too much just to keep them happy. I know clients sometimes bluff to get their way, but it’s hard not to take it personally when the pressure is on. How do you handle high-tension situations like this? Any strategies for keeping control of the conversation without damaging the relationship?
You did the best you can do. It’s tough!! Staying calm is key. After calls like that I step away from my computer for a bit. It’s so hard not to take it personally but it’s something you need to keep reminding yourself of.
