How do people in the IA profession motivate themselves? Personally, I love the fact that we are exposed to different business processes (rather than a specific number or subject matter), also I actually like the fact we are a bit more creative than the typical “in our less than humble opinion we think this number is not too incorrect” approach adopted by our external counterparts.

In public I found that I would get exposure to a lot of different things, then I would be rolled off to another engagement or there would be significant turnover within the team. This meant I never had the chance to deepen my knowledge in certain areas that were unique to the business. In IA you do get this exposure, which I find to be a more gratifying experience since I found the industry I'd like to remain in.

In external audit I felt more accountant because I was working with accounting rules and standards. I don’t see how IA has anything to do with accounting

Also, does title matter that much in IA? I’m a manager now, but based on job descriptions it looks like I might have to go for a senior auditor role because audit manager roles generally call for 8+ years from what I’m seeing. Can title be negotiated?
