Hey Fishbowl community! I currently work as a Sales Support Specialist with 3 YOE working at a SaaS company. My dream career is to work at Microsoft or Google. I am open to different opportunities that exceed 80k+ per year. I also have a BA in Business Admin. If anyone can refer me to a great remote position I would greatly appreciate it! 😀
Any US companies hiring remote @ Canada ?
Dear Fishes, I am in a conundrum currently. I have two offers. One from Deloitte USI (17.5 LPA fixed, 1.75 LPA variable and 1.5 L joining bonus). The other is from Infosys (25 LPA CTC. Permanent WFH. Negotiation is still on for this.)
Could you please be so kind as to help me decide which one to choose?
Thanks in advance,
Fellow Perplexed Fish.

i would advise you to get a tesla with autopilot
Honestly it is going to be rough for one or both of you once in person commutes resume. With COVID, I actually think you should target a place near the job most likely to resume in person and push for the other job to remain remote as long as possible. If you both HAVE to commute, one of you may want to keep an eye open for other opportunities.
FWIW I’m not sure I agree with this - my SO and I made a situation like this work for about a year by living downtown (this was pre-COVID, so we had to go in almost every day). Downtown is 30-40 minutes from LAX and 20-30 mins from most East Side workplaces (Burbank, Pasadena etc), which is perfectly reasonable IMO. I switched jobs after a year but it had nothing to do with the commute.
That said, I know DTLA isn’t for everyone, so if you’d rather switch jobs than live there that’s also a valid choice.

It’s a pain. Are you near LAX aka El Segundo? I had to commute from Santa Monica to Burbank only once a week for my last job and that was an odyssey each time.

So the commute to El Segundo shouldn’t be bad. Your partner will be going counter-traffic both in the AM and PM. Your commute to Burbank is the hard part. I don’t see a scenario in which you don’t have a 2hr daily commute, if you still want to be near the beach.
Your problem is that segment between 405 and 134. Doesn’t matter whether you take the 101, it’s just bad. Sorry but I’ve been in LA since undergrad 8yrs ago and I still hate the traffic.
One of my ex-directors said she goes through a lot of podcasts on her commutes.
I live in Glendale. Great sub centrally located in Los angles. You have beach mountain desert all an hour away. Great schools would highly recommend
I wouldn’t be opposed to it but would definitely make my SO’s commute difficult
Pro
OP - look at Sherman Oaks or Studio City.
1. Reasonably close to the beach whenever you want to go there.
2. Very reasonable commute to Burbank/Glendale.
3. Excellent food and drink options, and things to do in general.

Sorry I missed the part where the SO needs to commute to near LAX.
Hmmm Miracle Mile is probably the most centrally located area in all of LA.
Yeah that’ll be a tough trip from any beach to Glendale/Burbank during a regular morning commute.
If you’re deadset on a beach, Santa Monica or Venice may be your best bet

Looks like consensus is no beach city. Any other LA areas anyone recommends? Thinking Culver City is our best bet
Downtown or miracle mile are probably best location wise. Not the most interesting neighborhoods though, sadly. If you want to prioritize living somewhere nice, someone is going to have a shit commute.
I did it 20 years ago and it sucked, can’t imagine its better
