Last week, I had a team interview, and the manager said I was a "finalist," but also that they were still interviewing other candidates. Despite that, they followed up a few days later asking for five references! That seems like a lot of extra effort if they're still on the fence with multiple people. Why would they check so many references at this stage, and what does the "finalist" talk really mean?

Interviewing for a Google job. Currently an M2 at Meta. On the cusp of a D1 - what’s the equivalent level for D1 at Google? In Austin - so what salary should I be asking for and RSUs? Currently make base $250k plus 25% bonus and started Meta with 200k in stock. Also to note I’ve reached 5yrs so I have that 30d paid vacay coming up which I would lose if I took the google offer, if I got it. How honest are people when other companies ask for your comp?
