Last week, our team ran into a pretty bad issue because everyone was on a completely different page about what the requirements for a project were. I know keeping everyone on the same page is part of the job when you're in a leadership role, but I didn't realize just how important it was until this disaster... Really made me open my eyes to ensuring clear/open communication. What are the most important steps you take towards making sure there are no miscommunications or a lack of alignment?

I think what works for me is always creating space for the team members to ask questions and voice concerns. It always helps surface misunderstandings early. And one person's question answers many others'. There are a lot of people scared of sounding stupid.

Totally agree with this and also watching the tone on how one responds - it can definitely set the stage on how people will perceive an individual as approachable. I’ve had coworkers spend so much time “trying to figure it out” just so they don’t have to go the one person who knows the answer BUT makes them feel dumb or ashamed when they do ask.

Regular touchpoints to catch exactly that

Workout session that blocks time for 1.5-2hrs. Get everyone together to scope the problem statement, identify potential solutions and people responsible for next steps.

Communication is essential, but also so is a central place where people can find information both summarized and detailed… not everything should be verbal

What should I do just over a week ago I was cutting a foam panel and I cut myself by accident it was bleeding a lot in the moment I grabbed a napkin to hold on my hand and then my coworker went to report to the manager. I went to the bathroom to rinse it off but then when I went into the break room I passed out in front of two of my coworkers and my manager. When I woke up on the floor, my coworker told me I was out for 3 mins. The manager was belittling the situation and threatening my position

I am about to leave my current organization and I have several thousand in outstanding commission owed to me. It is a start up, so I have little faith in their fulfillment if I am not there to hold them responsible. My contract says I must be paid it within 6 months of separation. How have you all handled situations like this?
