Is this ask coming from your direct boss? Or further up the chain of command?
How much work will this plan take? Is leadership aware that robust plans often take hours or weeks to be done correctly and accurately?
I’d first have a discussion with my direct boss and explain what’s on my plate, and how reasonable the ask is. If it’s an unreasonable ask (and your boss agrees), hopefully they push back. But sometimes leadership doesn’t care about how unreasonable it is, and if they want you gone, they will make sure you’re done. So on some level, you gotta try an appease them in some way.
I might tell leadership that I can have a half-assed plan by XX date, or a more accurate, more robust plan by YY date and ask them which one they want. Often, they will be willing to wait until the more robust plan is available. That being said, I rarely find any in-quarter planning to be helpful. If you aren’t planning at least 1 or 2 quarters out, then you’re really just firefighting.
You're going into Q1 and don't already have it planned out...??
Correction, you're IN Q1 and don't have it planned??
