Moving from a LCOL city to the Bay Area can would be such a cost-of-living shock. Best of luck to you! For safety and affordability, I'd recommend looking into areas like Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, or even parts of Fremont. They should be fairly close (commuting will always be a problem somewhat) but the rents will be more affordable
Sunnyvale, Santa Clara are good options for Mountain View. Honestly anything in the west side of San Jose is nice. Not really cheaper though (none of it is cheap, sadly).
Best thing is to find roommates or a sublease, if you need cheap.
Get a roommate.
Campbell/san jose is a bit cheaper and not too far from mountain view
Honestly I’d put aside any references from your LCOL area. Look at your Bay Area salary and then look at the rents you see on the market. Think about what you can afford and go from there. There are less expensive areas even here, but nothing will compare to a LCOL area.
