Looking to transition from public accounting to valuation services. Specifically, I am interested in business valuation, but there aren’t a ton of opportunities in my area. If I started as an analyst in Stout’s machinery & equipment practice, assuming I performed well in the role, would doors open to transition to business valuation, or would I likely get stuck in a highly specialized niche of valuation services?

Having the valuation experience can only help you if you are hoping to transition to more modeling-based practices (General valuation, restructuring, disputes, etc)

Thanks for your reply. What I’m ultimately interested in is restructuring, however, I do not fit the candidate profile for entry level restructuring roles(no modeling experience). So, my thinking is I should go for any opportunity heavy on modeling to get some ‘reps’ in, and I think valuation services is maybe the most modeling-heavy service line.

Do you see people moving from valuations to Rx? Do you see any problems in the way I’m thinking?

Hi Everyone, I’m looking for advice. Right now I’m currently facing a hard decision. I’ve been at my work for 5 months as an HR assistant and have been given the opportunity to take on the Executive Assistant role. I’m in my early 20’s and still unsure what career path I want to take. I know I want to keep moving up and doing more but again, not sure where I want to be. I’d appreciate your thoughts and advice from your experiences along with pros/cons on either position. Anything would help!
