I wouldn't make "demamds", I would simply tell them you have an offer and what it is. If they want to keep you, they'll make a counter. I've never been one to take the counter because if they appreciated you, you'd already have what you're looking for. Also, once they know you are looking to jump ship, even if you take the counter, you'll likely always have a target on you.
And make sure the offer is in writing, along with the salary and the start date. And then be prepared to leave, because your chances are 50-50 even they want to keep you or they’re gonna let you go and you have to be good with either decision.
Go to the new company, there is a reason you started interviewing
Agreed.
Since you don’t already get along with your manager, that’s a good way to make the situation even worse when you go over your managers head. Better option would be take her to lunch, and explain why you would want the title, and don’t mention the higher 💰 , yet! She’s probably afraid you want her job. Believe me, that’s the way to do it be nice, and she’ll be nice in return just change your attitude, and know that everything turns out for the best.
Every job offer comes with a grace period that allows you to think about whether or not to accept it. If you are seeking employment elsewhere thats a red flag and I must ask. Why? Do you trust your employer if you are transparent and alert them to your new job offer, will they work with you? Or are you in an "at will state," where they can terminate you or you can leave them without any prior communication? Compensation is important but mearly a single piece in your puzzle. A title comes with respect and characteristics that identify you as someone with authority to provide assistance. If the other company has sent you an offer letter, I would be upfront with your current employer. If they agree to your request give them a deadline to put your new offer an title in writing, document everything!! Keep all communication professional and free of emotions. Good Luck.
Remember if it’s not in writing, it never happened. I know that’s harsh, but that’s one of the first rules you learn if promises are verbal, there’s no recourse, so be careful, and stand your ground.
Im in the same boat as you, right now its hard to decide ive been in the company for awhile and i saw a nice offer somewhere. If i were you. Go to the new one with big offer and start new
Why does a title matter so much? Also, remember that the grass is rarely greener on the other side. It is finding what crap you can tolerate and the job that can help you meet short and long term goals.
