Just give the standard 2 weeks’ notice…

like

If you plan to get paid for those five weeks, yea- most firms will either let you work two weeks or have you leave within a few days if they know you’re leaving for a competitor. They don’t want to give you the opportunity to take anything firm related on your way out.

like

I've done this once - my first time lateraling, I was going to a competitor but staffed on several deals with closings coming up and other projects I wanted to wrap up so as not to leave clients or colleagues in a bad spot. They were wanting me to stay for that reason, but candidly I think those circumstances were very unique. The other times I've lateraled to go to another firm (when I was more senior), they couldn't transition my work quick enough.

like

I did but wasn’t going to a competitor. There was a brief I wanted to finish and my firm appreciated it.

like

My firm pays you a bonus for giving extended notice. What are your reasons for considering this?

like

I just gave 3 weeks notice and looks like the third week was not necessary. It will be two weeks max. I don’t think 5 weeks is a good idea unless you’re at a tiny office with NO other associates to help partners.

Give two weeks. They can ask for more if they need it.

I see a lot in of this same discussion but very confusing and repetitive answers.
So would like people with personal experience to answer.
Thanks in advance 😃

Beginning to consider going in house (4th, corp) - I really haven’t thought about what I want, partly because I’m not sure what’s out there/attainable. Is it a bad idea to start by applying to a couple positions that interest me and seeing where that gets me? I’ll of course prep for the interviews but am afraid to burn potential bridges if I ultimately decline because I’m still figuring things out.

I’m have a new theory about why juniors always feel like idiots and wanted to see if anyone else thinks this makes sense. I’m a third year, and am the most junior person all of my teams (generally me, a senior or two, and a partner or two), and I always feel like I’m messing something up. Is this just because I never get to work with other juniors and don’t see the mistakes they make, and that it’s relatively normal? And FWIW I went to HYS and I’ve had a clerkship so it’s not like I’m not smart

How do you buy back time?

It's simple—by saving and investing.
