I've worked with the partners I report to, but not so much outside of my practice group. Is it normal for an associate to request a partner to do something or request information?

Do you mean for an associate to request something from a partner related to a matter your working on? If so, yes. That’s how you firm relationships outside your group, which is super important.

But I’m not really sure what you’re asking here.

like

Yea I have to ask for recommendations from a partner outside my group. I'm just not familiar with proper protocol and/or whether a partner would just shrug it off as a request from an associate.

Totally normal, just copy the partner whose matter it is on the request.

I just left a very toxic work place.
The crazy thing is they were just named the best local municipality to work for. It's upsetting. They advertise a "culture" but don'tapply it. It felt like a used car sales pitch, I was sold a dream but given junk. I am constantly replaying moments. I have read so many books and everything leads to they were the problem. How do I recover from this?

I’m in this business to cure my inferiority complex. Making lots of money, working with fortune 500 clients and walking the streets of NYC with a suit, tie and briefcase makes me feel important and worthy.

I often wish I could be like my law school friends who either moved to small towns or have public sector or non profit jobs, wear sweaters and jeans to work and make far less than me, but are happy with their lives, feel a sense of meaning with their work and don’t need external validation.

I recently had a specialist partner send me a fairly nasty email after I (a transactional first year) was told to ask them to review something ASAP that had clearly been on my partner’s radar for over a week. Why am I taking the (honestly justified) blame for this? Surely it should be obvious that I’m just the messenger here.

This is my first job in a large corporate company, and I’m trying to gauge how long it normally takes to move from entry level to another internal position in the insurance industry. I have been applying internally for a year now and I am wondering if this is normal or if my company is just slow? General question: Is there any room in corporate America for real, actionable DE&I discussions and initiatives? Is this just how it is?
