I’m about to post a property for rent in Pflugerville within walking distance of H-E-B and a nice pond that we like to call lake Pflugerville in the best area of the town (Falcone pointe). 5 minute drive to the mall and the water park. Hospital literally across the street and 2 minutes away from 130
Ditto A1: “Walkable” limits you to just a few relatively small sections of town, all of which will put you at some distance from Pflugerville.
My family (me, wife, two little boys) live in the Govalle neighborhood on the East Side and find it very walkable overall. Mueller is another very popular neighborhood for families, and also very walking-friendly. But both put you at a 30-45 min commute depending on where in P you’ll be working.
There’s the Domain, too, if you’re selecting JUST for walkability. But it’s arguably much less family friendly.
You can also look at Clarksville or Tarrytown, but both are even further from P and significantly pricier.
Haha or downtown if they have a giant budget
I second Mueller - lived there for a year prior to moving east of the city - would definitely recommend for a young family. We moved from Baltimore so walking around the neighborhood was like living in a simulation lol - clean, friendly people, and options for walkable dinners and shopping. Farmers market every Saturday is one of the better ones in the city.
If price is not an issue, agree with Mueller option. You’ll be doing a reverse commute on I35 (not a super pleasant road) . Realize, you will be committing to higher cost area and commuting to a less expensive suburban area. If you want a city feel, Mueller is very Central. While part of a planned community, it feels more urban and near downtown. For budget conscious there’s tons of less expensive areas near Pflugerville and Round Rock or North Austin, near Apple and Dell campuses. Sounds like you are willing to commute. Do not go to Domain… not family friendly and not great schools.
What do you want to be walkable to and how long of a commute are you okay with?
I want to see people around when I step out. Ok with 15 min drive.
Go live in round rock
