If it’s PI, definitely make sure there’s a commission split on all the cases you work on and a separate commission split for cases that you bring in yourself.
Depending on how much volume your firm has, the base pay may not matter as much, but the commission is where you’ll make the bulk of your money.
I’d say generally 3-5% of the cases you work on, and no less than 1/3 on the cases you bring in; these would be applied to the attorney’s fees the firm gets from the case, and then your percentages applied.
As you continue to work in PI, you can negotiate to increase these percentages; you’ll have extra leverage for increasing it if you’re a rainmaker.
Do you bring a book? If not I’d spend my time talking about the psychology of ins adjustors, since that’s what drives settlement. We plaintiff firms try to try the bangers and settle the rest.
