My firm has me (paralegal), HR/Client relations then the attorney. That’s it and that’s not my issue. Client relations is responsible for accounting, intakes, file set up kinda stuff. My issue is client relations is so bad at her job and makes frequent mistakes that the attorney has asked me to take over (no raise) and this client relations person now has an easier workload while I’m dying. The attorney will never fire her because it’s her best friend. I lose no matter what. I’m so overworked

My suggestion is to gently set boundaries. I’d do this by letting the attorney know that you have to do “xyz” tasks to get done today and ask them to let you know which to make a priority and what can wait.

Start looking for another job and leave or speak up for yourself and have a talk with the attorney about being over worked.

Additional Posts in Paralegals

So I’ve been with a court for a while and honestly the pay sucks compared to what paralegals should be making… the benefits are great though and they match my retirement 100% now that I’m vested at 3 years.I have 4 kids and 1 is getting ready for college. I feel like the benefits are great but I’d rather make more now. I am a previous LEO for 4 years who switched to paralegal so I have my leo retirement. Paralegals here make $28 with no benefits what is a good compromise

Hi everyone. Is it typical for the attorney to take credit for the work a paralegal does? An example: I gave some ideas about deposition questions and some observations I made (I was asked about giving suggestions) regarding a witness and the attorney mentioned that he’s the one that had these great questions/observations. Zero credit or thank you for the work I did.

Are there any fully remote lawfirms, ie you don't have to live in the state they have offices? I recently left a large lawfirm to go in-house which came with a huge paycut that is not going to be sustainable long term, but needed a remote position to be able to move. I'd like to keep my current job part-time but get back in a lawfirm too.

My boss (atty) is so disorganized! I’ve been with him 6 months and he’s having a hard time delegating, sharing info and managing deadlines. I’ve organized the caseload to manage the deadlines. He says he wants me to help with discovery but when I offer to start on one, he says he needs to do it. (Since he might have to present as evidence) When I give him deadlines and ask for the docs he says he’ll get to it. It’s a small 1 man firm, and I’m the first assistant besides his wife. Any advice?
