Seems like I have written this post...
This is exactly what I have been feeling.
Not motivation left at all. Even after the seaosn, I am just stressed..not sure regarding what.
I can't imagine myself going through this schedule starting from January till October next year. I panic even by the thought of it.
Any ping/email creates a terror inside my mind and I feel like just to hide somewhere.
I have no idea how to handle this....I have no idea what is happening..I don't know whether I will be able to come out of it..but what I do know is that this state I am in is very..very bad.
I have started hating everything related to my job and the company. I don't like tax anymore...but don't know what I can do besides tax. I just feel LOST.
Sorry, didn't mean to make you feel worse...but I am in the same boat as you and actively looking for help. All the best to us.
For me, I felt better as I started actively searching and applying to different position in the firm and outside the firm. I started talking to people in different groups to learn about their role and start helping them on different projects. Also started applying for different groups in other firms. I also started hating tax so started to look into Tax technology, process improvement, project management type of roles within tax. That way my tax background is still valued but i don't need to really DO tax. I really do know how you feel, so sending good vibes to you. Hope you do some soul searching and find something that you enjoy (even the slightest) from your current role and work on pivoting towards that and out of tax. Good luck
The issue isn’t you. The environment is sick. The work cycle will not change. It’s time to at least consider the possibility of moving on to another company.
Take time off you’re burnt out. Was in your shoes this time last year

@EY1 - I left for core tax. I think my point was no firm is better than the other and your experience can be very different depending on the office/teams you are on.
I would strongly suggest move out of them firm nothing and I repeat nothing is worth ruining your mental or physical health.
Move could be temporary like sabbatical or switch that’s your call
I think it’s a common theme in our line of work. I suggest changing your attitude and caring a little less. I worked myself worthless for a couple months in 2020 until I realized that this is the game they play. They ride us as hard as they can until you can’t take it anymore and leave. The other option is to take a chill pill, do what’s fair, and start saying no more often. No one is going to protect you at your firm nor any other place of employment. Once you have proved to yourself that you bring value even without working 60 hour weeks, you will need to respectfully start standing up for yourself. You bring value, treat yourself like it!
My best advice is to have these conversations internally with the folks you work for, whether it's partners, managers, HR or your career advisor. In this business there are often times so many teams and direct reports given our client focused engagement team structures, that one partner or manager you're working for may have no idea that you feel this way because they only work with you for X% of the year. You're either going to have the hard conversation now, or you're going to have the hard conversation when you put in your two weeks notice. Before you slap the eject button and hang your white flag, talk to your teams about transitioning off engagements that fill you with dread and shifting your schedule. Or, discuss that you need to take two, maybe three weeks off and totally disconnect to see if that helps you stay fulfilled. In the end, if this doesn't work, I think they'll really understand that you tried to make an effort to stay, and can't make much of a fuss if you decide to leave. I give this advice because I see folks leave one firm, and go to another (or private) and see themselves in the same mousetrap under a different title/employer two years later. Hope my opinion is helpful.
Following. 😢
