My friend's small-sized firm have been struggling with managing their cases and discovery materials properly. I was hoping you guys could help me with any tips for organizing massive amounts of case files or discovery documents..

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated :)

Do they have document software? If not make folders like "Discovery" inside there make sub folders "Discovery to Plaintiff" "Discovery from Plaintiff""Plaintiffs Responses and make sure each set starts with the date it came in" "Plaintiffs Production and in there folders with each date the documents came in" and so on with each party

Have you ever used a shared database like Relativity of NetDocuments? That could help create some organization. Otherwise you could just use consistent folder naming with dates and keywords (make a key so it's easy to explain to others how things are organized).

Just been offered a manager position (people & org consulting) at a big 4 in Qatar for 24k (QAR). Based on previous threads this seems low for the region. Especially as 9k goes towards accommodation (max unfurnished 1br) ....Have I been low balled? Or is this normal?

Hi friends! I’m an ex-art director that recently stepped away after 5 years to try to pivot into production. I know it’s not the typical career route, but I think I’ll enjoy the work a lot more and be happier overall. I’m also trying to move to NYC from Austin. Does anyone have any tips for me to help me get my foot in the door? I’m an extremely hard worker, I’ve just been struggling to get convos started since I don’t really have a great NYC network. Thanks all!

Additional Posts in Paralegals

I’m getting messages from recruiters for Sr. Corporate Paralegal roles but all of my experience is in litigation. I have 6 years experience as a paralegal. Should I move forward with this? Not sure if I’m qualified.

Hi everyone. Is it typical for the attorney to take credit for the work a paralegal does? An example: I gave some ideas about deposition questions and some observations I made (I was asked about giving suggestions) regarding a witness and the attorney mentioned that he’s the one that had these great questions/observations. Zero credit or thank you for the work I did.

Where do you find the time to get everything done in the day when you have multiple partners, associates and equity partners that interrupt you and want things turned around immediately while simultaneously working on deadlines? I feel like I’m the only one that can’t manage a 70+ case load without letting someone down. I constantly have to say “Can I do this tomorrow?” Etc. I don’t even have time to bill on the clock. I work until 7p at least every night. Top 10 family law firm.

My boss (atty) is so disorganized! I’ve been with him 6 months and he’s having a hard time delegating, sharing info and managing deadlines. I’ve organized the caseload to manage the deadlines. He says he wants me to help with discovery but when I offer to start on one, he says he needs to do it. (Since he might have to present as evidence) When I give him deadlines and ask for the docs he says he’ll get to it. It’s a small 1 man firm, and I’m the first assistant besides his wife. Any advice?

Paralegals: My firm is looking for a paralegal, and I see the job posting advertising the salary as $65-$75k, with benefits. Is this a good salary for a paralegal (Greater LA area)? I’m not the decision maker, but it’s been a few weeks with very few applicants. I’m curious if there’s something hurting the firm in its search.

Are there any fully remote lawfirms, ie you don't have to live in the state they have offices? I recently left a large lawfirm to go in-house which came with a huge paycut that is not going to be sustainable long term, but needed a remote position to be able to move. I'd like to keep my current job part-time but get back in a lawfirm too.

For those of you who made the switch to in house/corporate law, what was your experience like? Did you have to take a lower position to gain the experience or were you able to argue that your soft skills were transferable to in house? I’ve been in litigation for 15 years and I’m looking to make the switch. Ultimately, I’d like to get into Legal Ops, but feel getting some in house experience first would be beneficial.
