Do small law firms have paralegal managers?

I left a cushy small firm where I was underpaid to go to big law and bought a condo downtown. Immediately we were sent to WFH and I had a hard time developing relationships. My boss is apparently known for being extremely condescending and difficult but she has a good reputation in the community due to her big clients. The dynamic was kind of a mess - everything I thought big law would turn out to be actually ended up being something else. Attorneys were never on top of their work. You would get thrown under the bus immediately, even by your boss to their own client to save face. I noticed some red flags in the beginning but chalked it up to the change in practice size. I’m hindsight I would have documented everything, been more assertive with boundaries, and been looking for a job on the back end. They ultimately fired me over something stupid and left me with my pants down. I don’t regret my experience, I just regret not being a stronger advocate for myself. I am now in a midsize firm and management has a reputation for being horrible but I got a $15k raise. This time I’m doing what I didn’t do at my last firm and keeping my options open for a better job. Hope that helps
For real for real, thank you! I’ve been struggling with shame, but you’ve helped me see that there’s nothing to be ashamed of… just like my husband and best friend said. Haha!
(2/2) I left my old job on good terms and can go back, but I left because the work load was too much, I was underpaid, and making any kind of progress for the support staff was like waking through peanut butter. I wanted to make a better life for me and my husband, but I’ve been sleeping worse than before and waking up more anxious. We’re not in a good enough place for me not to work (I’ve been trying to pay off debt). I just want to crawl in a cave.
I left a small firm abt two wks ago; I had been job hunting for about a month.
I was hired as a remote Paralegal for a much larger firm and got a significant pay increase.
My previous employer was toxic, no HR, no accountability at all. The job was making me physically sick on top of being mentally drained.
I'd stick it out at the new job, cover your a** and document all conversations and notes. But in the meantime continue to job search. I'm sure that you'll be able to find something more suitable in no time. Take advantage, while your resume is up to date and you've already had a few interviews🙂.
Ditto… but yes always cover your booty! Put everything in an email. When they ask you to do something if you seem a little unsure email back for clarification to make sure you understand what they’re asking so that they don’t try to come back on you. But the most important thing a CYA always always always! Stay positive and pray for them! At the end of the day you are in control of your own destiny.
