I hit my one greasy spot with dry shampoo.
My hairstylist told me to not use any product on your crown. This seems to help.
I use Amikas plus size mouse. It almost always has body and shine the next day. If not, I run their hot brush through it.
I haven’t had any issues. When I do wash my hair I make sure to wash all around. I just try not to put any styling products there.
How often are you washing your hair? I used to wash daily and had this problem. It took a while but I cut waaaay back on how often I wash. I maybe wash 2 times a week. I use Trader Joe’s tingling tea tree shampoo and conditioner and it’s been better for my hair than so many fancy things I tried (proof, prose, olaplex, new hair) I do use the olaplex pre wash treatment once a week and a purology heat protector when I blow dry. Overall my hair is much less oily now. There was maybe three weeks that were rough and I would just do a bun in my head with a headband or bandana when it was oily
Try dry shampoo (non-aerosol, benzene-free) at the roots. Agree with washing less often. Try a lightweight shampoo designed for daily use that has no heavy moisturizers or anything else that could coat the hair.
My roots get beyond oily lol and my ends get drier than the Sahara 🥴🫠
Your scalp is overcompensating for the dry hair. Try oil treatments the night before you wash or 15 minutes before. Get a good conditioner and only apply it to your ends. Don’t use a drying shampoo
make sure you are exfoliating your scalp at least every month but if you use a lot of product than I would do it weekly and use a clarifying shampoo once a week to strip away the buildup
I started using dry shampoo right after the first wash. This seems to prolong it. They say you need to “train” your hair/scalp by roughing it out w the oily days. I just put it back in a ponytail or bun on the really bad days.
I have oily hair too. It’s not a one answer fits all solution but I shampoo my hair twice on wash days. I wash every 2-3 days. I wear my hair up in a claw clip and pull out pieces in the front if it’s looking oily on the last day but this can’t be seen on camera just in person. I use a heat protectant/Detangler all over before I blow dry, and a hair oil on the end and lengths. I blow dry with a round brush for more volume. Also I love following this scalp expert on IG for other hair tips:

What type of shampoo ar which using? Dry? Moisturizing? Are your ends dry too?
Shampoo your scalp (not rest of your hair) 2x, letting the shampoo sit for 2-3 minutes each time. Rinse with lukewarm water.
Conditioner ears down only. Let it set for 3-5 minutes and rinse with cool water to close the cuticle and naturally add shine.
If your shampoo has silicones and other things, it can be clogging your hair follicle.
Also, think of dry shampoo as deodorant - use it BEFORE you get oily. A great tip is applying it before bed and NOT brushing. Blow dry your roots in the morning and voila!
I have the same problem and I’ve tried many solutions before. Here is what I learned so far and it seems to have made things a little better for me:
1. Do not use any hydrating shampoos/conditioners. This will add more hydration to your hair and therefore make it oilier faster. My understanding is that oily scalp does not need more hydration.
2. Use a voluminizing shampoo/conditioner instead. The one i am using and liking so far is the Redken voluminizing shampoo (it’s a light pink bottle)
3. Use some sort of detox product in your hair prior to washing it. And after watching many videos by dermatologists, i learned that you have to kepp those detox products in your hair for a little bit of time. While i like detox shampoos, i don’t think they stay on the scalp for long enough to really detox the scalp (or at least for me i need something that sits on the scalp for some time). I am using the Briogeo Revival Treatment spray that you need to spray and let it sit for 15 mins before washing your hair
Good luck :)
