I would rather check out Manchester instead of london. London is lovely but just not worth the price you pay. Manchester has everything London has.
Spareroom is a good start to find rentals.
Also check out right move
Very true! Unfortunately for someone very early early in their career I can’t say I’m making enough to enjoy it

Rightmove, Zoopla. London is expensive esp w kids. Take a look at the Junior League of London’s Living in London: A Practical Guide for info for expats including neighborhoods.
Depends entirely on your budget.
Hampstead/Marylebone if you're loaded.
Islington or Chiswick if you're rich.
Walthamstow if you're well off but want to pretend you're not.
Wandsworth or Wimbledon or Dulwich if you're well off and want space.
There are plenty of other areas. But there is a price point below which everything is different degrees of awful.

Also look at Clapham, Greenwich, Hammersmith, Stoke Newington, Finchley Road, Belsize Park, Maida Vale, and Queens Park for family friendly areas with a slightly lower price point. Blackheath and Kew/ Richmond is not cheap but beautiful. Eltham is a bit cheaper but well connected by train. But keep in mind any semi-decent and spacious (?) 2 bed will be more like £3000+ in rent for an old historical conversion flat in relatively well connected areas. Anything below £2000 is likely to be just plain awful.
