Is this Massumi?
The biggest complaint I get from young M&A associates is that they are on massive deal teams, and the senior associates hoard the best work and drafting opportunities. Massumi’s entire business model is mega-fund X does not want to pay Kirkland or STB to have a 20 person team on a deal where they are buying a car wash chain for $150M. So Massumi gets all those deals. There is a HUGE demand for those deals, especially as the baby boomers and Gen X start cashing out. Is the car wash deal sexy or going to get you on the WSJ? No. But it does allow an associate t be staffed alone with a Partner and run the deal. And those reps, IMO, are invaluable. Also, if you’re an UES kid or Ivy grad with a great network of friends in finance, you’ll have far more success pitching them Massumi than you will Kirkland or STB. That said, to be clear - it’s not work/life balance firm. You’re billing 2100-2300 hours like any other busy M&A shop. But you’re also not the 7th associate on a conference call taking notes.
Interested! Would you consider retools? (I’m currently in another practice area, but I have about 2 years of M&A experience from my prior firm)
