Over a year ago, I lateraled from a firm doing mostly land use/development to a volume lender debt finance practice. By volume I mean I’m on 15+ deals a day. I don’t think this is for me….anyone have any other CRE practices that they enjoy? I’m a first year associate (almost second year). I work at a national firm and I’m not a litigator. When I started with the firm, I was told I could work out of any office. Long story short, I regret choosing the office that I chose. I’d like to transfer to another office - is that a difficult ask? I’m licensed in the state I’d like to transfer to. I don’t know how to make this request.

A junior associate at big law here. When you get emails from recruiters asking for a call to discuss new opportunities, do you respond declining or do you just not respond? What’s the norm? Do you respond to cold emails?

In the current lateral market what is the usual time for hearing a decision after a final round of interviews? Anybody have experience with adjournment requests in the 1st Dept App Division? We have a respondent’s brief due a week from Wednesday. This past we submitted an application for adjournment. I’ve convinced my partner that we have good cause (record issues that need a motion to resolve) but now I’m starting to get worried. Are adjournments usually granted?

Curious how compensation works for counsel at top-tier law firms. How much do counsel make? Is it relatively set/lockstep salary, or does it vary significantly based on hours? Do counsel have hours requirements?

Switched firms and new firm doesn’t pay any origination% of business brought in until the total $ brought in is mid-five figures. Standard? My book is below that threshold. Old firm paid 10%.

Anyone have any advice for someone interested in getting an MBA to either go in-house or break into securities litigation. 5th year associate here.
