Now that the year is ending how do you feel about job security? I’m feeling pretty good for 2026 even though I want to leave my job so badly.

I'm right there with you. My job feels "safe" but I don't like it. I'd love to find something else but I'm having zero luck and interviews.

Are you a bit anxious about moving to a new job?

I don't think anyone is feeling too confident about job security. It seems like layoffs can hit anyone, or any department, these days. I'd like to find a better job next year, but I had the same goal for this year and the job market had other ideas for me. Let's hope things pick up a bit in 2026 and we'll all find the jobs we want.

Yep I’m trying my hardest to stay positive cause I could be out of a job right now like others

What is one of the most frustrating parts of being a scientist or researcher?

I'll tell you what it is: referencing!

You have to do so much of it, and it's so annoying. You have to cite your sources, but there are so many different formats for citations! And then sometimes you don't even know how to cite something, and how are you supposed to know that unless you ask someone who knows? And even then, they might not be sure whether it should be an in-text citation or a footnote…
