What is one of the most frustrating parts of being a scientist or researcher?

I'll tell you what it is: referencing!

You have to do so much of it, and it's so annoying. You have to cite your sources, but there are so many different formats for citations! And then sometimes you don't even know how to cite something, and how are you supposed to know that unless you ask someone who knows? And even then, they might not be sure whether it should be an in-text citation or a footnote…

Right? Do incredibly important work while being unable to feed and house yourself :/

One of the most frustrating parts of being a scientist or researcher is constantly having to deal with failure. Whether it's an unsuccessful experiment, a paper that gets rejected, or simply not making the breakthrough you were hoping for, it can be demoralizing to constantly come up short. It can be hard to stay motivated when your work seems to constantly be falling short.

One of the most frustrating parts of being a scientist or researcher is dealing with the bureaucracy of academia. Writing grants, filling out forms, and attending meetings can take up a lot of time that could be better spent doing research.

I currently work at a large research institution and am in the process of getting retroactively reclassified to a new title (Long story but my PI is cheap and routinely pays ppl the bare minimum so now the Union is helping me w/ a retro reclass.) Reclass can take 2 - 6 months to process. Meanwhile, I am interviewing for industry job. If I get an industry job, what do I do if my reclass isn’t processed yet? I want the title and the money owed which may be about $15000- 20000.

Currently going to school for my cannabis certification but I rarely see any jobs that offer cannabis research. I currently work in a lab/greenhouse environment and would love to continue that line of work with hemp/cannabis. Yet again no luck whatsoever, just finding jobs as budtenders or running a dispensary. Does anyone know where I can find research-based cannabis jobs? I have a degree in horticulture with lab experience.
