NY attorney that is about to get admitted in CT. Are fees the same (1/3 of the settlement)? Or is it like Florida where it depends on pre-suit vs in-suit?

It’s 33 1/3 for the first $350k and then a sliding scale of lower % as the dollars get higher, set by statute, that scale can be waived by the client. Gen. Stat. 52-251c.

I serve as outside General Counsel to small law firms, DM me if you’d like to chat law firm risk management.

Typically it’s always going to be 33.333% 1/3 for pre lit, and 40% for litigation is the standard across the United States.

In NYS it’s 33.3 regardless of in-suit or pre-suit

In an auto accident trial, can you inform the jury in any way that the at-fault driver had insurance? Anyone know a Connecticut or 2nd circuit case for this rule? I can’t find one to save my life. A defendant generally is liable for all harmful results that are the normal incidents of and within the increased risk caused by their negligent acts. If a defendant's negligence was a substantial factor in producing the plaintiff's injuries, the element of proximate cause has been satisfied and the defendant would not be relieved from liability for those injuries even though another force concurred..

Hi everyone - I'm contemplating an offer from a large PI firm. I'm a little more than halfway through completing my 2nd year of practice, and I'm currently at a small firm with a low salary that's just no longer cutting it.

The offer from the large firm is for a pre-suit position, base salary of $100K - is this salary pretty standard for this kind of position?

Any insight is appreciated, thank you!!
