Dear fishes, After working in Autosar(CAN/FR/OS) configuration for 4 years, I wanted to switch domain to device drivers. So I bought a STM board. Joined some udemy courses. Learnt SPI/I2C/NVIC/exception handling and FREERTOS/OS. Now I want to apply to companies like Nvidia Texas Instruments Qualcomm NXP Without any prior experience I am a bit nervous as people say the interviews would be very difficult in these.
Please help with embedded and prog ques for these interviews.
TIA. Please reply.

I capture my resume in terms of years not month and year, so no one notices.
You can always say the gap is because you wanted a covid mental break

Depends on total YoE. For someone with not more than 5 YoE -
<= 3 months: none
3-6 months: maybe
> 6 months: likely
You’re not between jobs, you are currently independently consulting and/or working at (insert company you just created an S-corp for) with a few others.
Additionally, you are on a “personal sabbatical” and cite some enlightenment stuff.
3 months
Honestly, as long as you can speak to it shouldn’t be an issue.
Had 5 month gap in between my first and second job (9/15/17-2/15/18) Once I got my second job no one really cared about the gap and has never came up since during interviews.

This is a good point. Starts mattering less if it’s in the distant past.
As someone currently in between jobs - anything less than 6months wont raise any questions. Also, if you are an “independent consultant” then no one really questions anything.
Lastly, I think its sad that people need to ask. We should normalize career breaks. I shouldn’t have to justify why I took a couple of months off because I dont want to grind 24/7 until I retire.
