Oof! Hopefully they were paperback lol! I once had a virtual interview and made sure to plug my laptop in prior but realized too late that the plug it was plugged into needed the switch to be on for power to go to it. I had to be like, "Sorry to interrupt, but I need to turn on this power switch" 🤦♀️ Spoiler alert: I didn't get the job.

No, they were hardbacks, but not thick enough to kill me 😀. And I did get hired. It was my first marketing job out of college. Maybe they were afraid of a lawsuit if I didn’t get it. I’ve been on the interviewer’s side of your story. One time, their laptop lost power during the interview and they never reconnected.
Ouch!! That sounds so painful! Were you in person or over zoom?
Mine was very early in my career. I was interviewing with a woman who made it very clear the job would need to be my life. She’d ask things like “do you have any hobbies?” And after my response say, “well to work here you have to be okay giving those up because your work should take up all of your free time.” And when learning my parents lived out of state, mentioned that she wouldn’t give me special treatment so I could visit them at the holidays (to be clear - I didn’t ask for that or bring it up on my own). And then ended it telling me the salary would be $30K with hour expectations from 8am to 8pm every day and weekend work.
Shocker, I removed myself from the process after that.

It was in the 90’s so definitely in person. We barely had internet back then 😉 and it was the supervisor’s office.
Your horror story would’ve really began if you took that job. Consider it a blessing that she was upfront about how miserable you would have been.
