Our policy is phone away except at lunchtime. First offense is warning. Second is write up 3rd is iss. I will say most of the teachers know students are hiding cell phone behind a chrome-book or in their lap and ignore it. Most are tired of being the cell phone police
Schools are a cellphone-free zone for students. Teachers can have a cellphone on their desk to receive emergency calls, but cannot make calls from the classroom during the school day. If a student is caught using a cellphone on campus, the device is confiscated and locked away for 3 school days. If a teacher feels the need to check her email or Facebook while her students are working on an assignment, they are subject to a formal caution. Three of those in a school year and you're gone. It is important that students understand that teachers and students are not equals, but that teachers must abide by the same rules to set a proper example.
Love that policy! Cell phones are the bane of my existence.
At my school students are only allowed to be on phones at the direction of their teacher. Sometimes we use phones to take photos or videos of experiments. For me it's a respect issue.
We are told the cells phones must be in their book bags and it stays in the cubbies. My problem is the kids would go to their cubbies all day. In my classroom I have a clear combination box and the students know to put their cell phones in there in the morning and they get it at dismissal. I do teach 6th grade in an elementary school which is a little bit easier than in MS & HS.
The district did try to use the cell to phone, plastic cases, but that didn’t work to well from what I was told 🤷🏾♀️
