Out of curiosity, do any POs/PMs have a Master’s degree? If so, what field is your degree in?

I don't. I barely know any PM that has a Masters to be honest, just certs

like

What are some good certs for PMs?

Nope. A basic finance degree at a no name college. I am a PM at Microsoft. Tech world doesn’t care for a Masters degree. They care about the impact you can make which requires experience. A Masters degree can’t teach you that. I think it’s only essential to propel you in the earlier stages of career or much much later in your career only from a personal achievement perspective. That’s my personal opinion I am sure others may a different take or have input I haven’t considered/experienced.

like

If you need it to get where you are going, like campus placements or switching industries, fine. Otherwise it's all communication skills, presentation skills, organization skills, impact, networking, branding, etc. PM is an art, so it's ill defined, fluid, and experience driven.

I’ll be starting a master’s program to get more technical + moving geographically and switching out of consulting + networking + take a work break. I’ve landed many interviews with my current profile but I believe the new network will expand my opportunities vastly and make it easier to get into fangmula. Also I’ve always wanted a master’s degree + be in STEM so here goes

I do ! Masters in digital project management. Very helpful for starting my career

like

Everything but at different level. I learned a lot in this master, in law, economics, project management, ux/ui... it gave me the basics to understand and apprehend a first job but also, I made my master and worked in the same time as an intern in a big company. It’s more easy to work after a first experience in your field even if it’s a student work. Also, the master and the university was pretty famous in my city (in Europe) and opened many doors after my graduation. So I think if someone want to continue studying, this person need to check the reputation of the master in the country, the school reputation and the program. And if possible, take a master with internship ! Hope it will help 😊

I do. MS User-Centered Design

like

I have a masters degree in public health. I had a career of my own before moving to tech and my subject matter expertise helped me make the switch. If you want a masters, go get it. Don’t let people tell you what the industry “cares about” or what a degree doesn’t teach you. You are in charge of your career.

like

I do. MS in Information Technology . I’d say it has helped me more on the technical side, that’s about it.

like

lol, I would say I do use it as far as critical thinking and all.. but I also acknowledge I could’ve been successful without it .

I don’t have a masters degree and am a PM. I think a masters matters more as you try to become a C level exec.

like

I might not have written it clearly- I don’t see any downside to having one early, only benefits!
What I mean is, if your goal is to be a c level then a masters is good to have. Directors and VP positions in mid size and large do carry masters degrees often. If your goal is just to be PM then maybe ok with just a bachelors.

I want to pursue my MBA personally; that’s a goal of mine and if I want to go to Product leadership, I think it would be helpful. I’ve used a lot of my international business degree in product, and I think the MBA would be relevant.

I got an MBA in 2006, right before I started working in Product. I had a BA in Art History, though, so I had to get my MBA right afterward.

like

Nope just undergraduate degree from a small school

like

Mostly PMs I know have a MBA and some don’t have a masters’ degree.

like

I got a masters in marketing in 2011 and was in that field for 8 years before fully transitioning into PM roles. It sorta helps? I think the returns are diminishing now

like

Most PMs at my company have MBA’s. I’ve used more from my certified products management designation and certified product marketing manager designation.

helpful

Thanks so much to everyone who left a comment! It really helps me understand what future me should do to further my career 😁

No

I don't have a master's and my bachelor's is in graphic design.

With social security potentially running out, why couldn’t it be an option for the govt to put $5k for every baby that is born in a year into an account Invested in a govt share class S&P 500 fund. Historical average is 10%+, which would provide roughly $2.7 million for a baby born today. Eventually, this would eliminate the need for soc sec tax, and would only cost $18 Billion a year instead of several trillion a year being deposited into the trust.
